ROLE:

I was responsible for UX design, UI art (concept to final), and implementation of all UI assets into the game. I had to research our competitors, as well as the shows, our players’ expectations, needs, and pain points of the game, as well as creating methods to achieve our own objectives. I designed and created wireframes, UX flows, UI Art and Design, buttons, icons, dialogues, and layouts. I was the UI Artist for the entire development phase, launch, and for all additional live ops chapter roll outs.

Tasks included wireframes, layouts, flows, mock ups, concept to final creation of UI assets, and implementation of assets for pre-production to live launch for multiple titles.

I worked on the following titles:
Love is Blind
Money Heist
Virgin River
Emily in Paris
(…and more!)

BACKGROUND:

Netflix has a great number of incredibly popular shows. The company wanted to create narrative games based on popular titles that allow the player to feel as if they are also a character in the show’s story and universe.

These games are used as promotional material for the shows, and goal of these games is to keep fans occupied during the off season. The games are free for all Netflix subscribers.

KEY OBJECTIVES:

Provide an inclusive gaming experience, create intuitive UX for all types of players, create UI that all types of players can understand, all while making visually appealing art for players to look at.

PAIN POINTS:

  1. Must adhere to existing Netflix UI/UX hierarchy, flow, and structure. This is especially difficult to do since Netflix has never created a separate hub to house their own games before. There was a lot of decisions that needed to be made:

    • Will all the games be landscape or portrait?

    • Will all the games have the same customization screens and flow?

    • Will each game have custom UI? If so, to what extent?

  2. UI/UX must be easy and friendly to use, but also hold a lot of customization options to appeal to many different demographics of our target market.

  3. Hard deadline and incredibly fast paced. Netflix wants to push more content for more of their IPS and is aiming to release a new game almost every 2 months.

  4. The tech is not 100% solid. We had to link Netflix subscriber accounts with our own hub, and then hold all of our games within this hub.
